Guns win by a hair

The Guns got the trophy, but everyone was a winner. In a neck-and-neck brawl for blood, our first responders, along with support from the community, brought their A game, doubling the number of donations for the Guns and Hoses Blood Battle compared to last year. A grand total of 88 people came out to support the event, which was dually sponsored by Queensborough National Bank and Shepeard Community Blood Center. The Guns had 45 total supporters while the Hoses were on their heels with 43.

BCSO recommends system to keep track of valuables

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging all residents to use a free online system that will help keep track of valuable and invaluable personal property. ReportIt is a free, secure online service allowing citizens to record serial numbers and upload images for guns, phones, electronics, and other valuables. Should those items ever be stolen, the BCSO says having the information will go a long way in accurately and quickly identifying your property. Citizens can access the site at reportit. leadsonline.com.

Deputies get advanced DUI enforcement training

Personnel from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and Waynesboro Police Department recently received advanced training in field sobriety testing and DUI enforcement.  Members of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center’s Traffic Division traveled to Burke County to teach the courses.

Sheriff’s office receives state and federal grants

t its Nov. 13th meeting the Burke County Commission accepted new grants on behalf of the sheriff’s office totaling $247,190.92 for 2019. The grant funding will provide for assistance with salaries, vehicles, maintenance and other related needs of the sheriff ’s office thanks to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the Waynesboro Housing Authority.

Holiday DUI: law enforcement agencies cracking down

fficers are in the middle of a three-day course on detecting drunk drivers. the Burke County Sheriff's Office is working with the state of Georgia, to make sure deputies do their best to keep our streets safe. "We're not trying to empty ticket books or run out of rolls in our ticket printers," said Brad Owens. "We're out there to save lives."
