Sheriff's Office get involved with 'Cops in the Community'

The Burke County Sheriff's Office hosted a "Cops in the Community" event on Monday, July 16, 2018, in Waynesboro, Georgia as part of their community involvement program. Adults, young adults, and children all joined the fun, fellowship, and football. The event also included great food- hotdogs, ice cream, chips, and sodas.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office is cracking down on speeding. Thanks to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, it will be getting more resources. This is the 4th traffic safety grant awarded to the Sheriff's Office since the Sheriff Alfonzo Williams took over last year.  "It's just really not worth it. Slow down, stop tailgating, put the phone down and for God sake's there's no excuse for driving drunk nowadays," says Chief Deputy Lewis Blanchard.

Multiple drugs uncovered in bust

A Waynesboro man was arrested Monday after a search warrant led to the discovery of a number of drugs in his home, everything from marijuana to meth to heroin and pills. According to a report from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation into Ernest “Twist” Harris began in early September, when investigators were contacted by a number of residents who complained he was selling drugs out of his home on the 1500 block of Highway 23 South. Just before 7 p.m. on Monday, members of the narcotics, special operations and criminal investigations divisions executed a search warrant and found a number of drugs inside his home including approximately 52.2 grams of methamphetamine, 4.2 grams of heroin, 2 grams of crack cocaine and 21.8 grams of marijuana. He was also in possession of numerous amounts of prescription pills including Suboxone strips and Zubsolv, Alprazolam,Oxycotin and Oxycodone tablets.

Guns win by a hair

The Guns got the trophy, but everyone was a winner. In a neck-and-neck brawl for blood, our first responders, along with support from the community, brought their A game, doubling the number of donations for the Guns and Hoses Blood Battle compared to last year. A grand total of 88 people came out to support the event, which was dually sponsored by Queensborough National Bank and Shepeard Community Blood Center. The Guns had 45 total supporters while the Hoses were on their heels with 43.
