The Office of Training and Professional Development is tasked with many functions. TPD is responsible for all training, oversight of the Field Training Program, collaboration with the Detention Center for its Jail Training Program and the Office of the Quartermaster.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office Indoor Shooting Complex and Augusta Technical College’s Waynesboro Campus collaborate to create a Training Arena that includes a 25yard Indoor Firing Range, a Multi-Media Lab capable of holding 45 students and a multi-purpose Auditorium capable of holding groups as large as 250 students.
The primary purpose of the Training Arena is to provide members of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies with the highest quality available. With future plains of expansion, the BCSO’s Office of Training and Professional Development has set a goal of becoming one of the premier training divisions in the CSRA. The BCSO in collaboration with Augusta Technical College’s Waynesboro Campus conducts or hosts advanced law enforcement training year round to ensure that the law enforcement officer in this area receive the highest quality training available. The Office of Training and Processional Development also provides in-service training for members of law enforcement year round, which is conducted each month.

The Office of Training and Professional Development is headed by Lieutenant Scott Usry. He is responsible for the oversight of all training activities to include the FTO and JTO efforts. Working alongside Lt. Usry is Sgt. Jay Hollingsworth, who also oversees the office of the Quartermaster.
