Public Safety is Top Priority

Public safety is crucial to our community's overall health and prosperity. Sheriff Williams works diligently to assure the safety and well-being of the 23,000 people who call Burke County home and the men and women of the Burke County Sheriff's Office, who protect them.

Sheriff Williams has achieved his initial goals to reduce burglaries and violent crimes and curb gang activity. He scrutinized the budget and found ways to reduce unnecessary expenses and allocate as much money as possible to achieve these goals.

Sheriff Williams added deputies to each shift, upgraded the office's fleet of patrol cars to make them offices on wheels with computers, GPS, and trucking system radios, and improved employee pay. He has equipped every deputy with a bulletproof vest.

He has implemented a system to share information on every arrest and incident via computer with city police, the magistrate court, the clerk of the superior court, juvenile justice, and state probation.
